Survival VS. Evolution

In class, we've been discussing about the concepts of "survival of the fittest" and evolution. Are these both the same ideas? or are they instead topics related to one another?

I believe these ideas are closely related to one another. Survival of the fittest is a process in which the superior species will survive as long as they can defend themselves and get all the resources necessary for life. Evolution is how we evolve due to different factors, we aren't fighting exactly to stay alive but our genes and everything is changing to help better ourselves to make life easier. We evolve in such ways to become immune to certain diseases and sicknesses, so therefor our bodies change to adapt to our environment, which then leads to the survival of the fittest will be the stronger humans.

I think they are basically the same thing. The theory of natural selection maintains, the organisms that adapt the best to their environment, be it escaping a predator, or surviving a toxin in the air, will produce more offspring and thus thrive. Is this not the same definition of evolution, namely that organisms evolve DUE to changes in survivability?

these two are related in a way, because they both talk basically about specialization. evolution talks about species changing over time to overcome the earths global changes. "Survival of the fittest" explains how species that are most adapted to the environment survive and pass on their genes to other genrations. These traits that get passed on eventually change the apperance of the species over a long period of time. Thus, the animal is basically evolving to survive in the new envirionment. Species evolve due to "survival of the fittest". Animals and plants want to survive, they must therefore constantly change to keep up with the changes(mostly done my humans). Both of these topics are most definitely the same ideas.

Survival of the fittest merely explains evolution and natural selection.

I think survival of the fittest and evolution go hand in hand. Through various climate and/ or ecological change the fittest species survive. These surviving species are able to reproduce and there genes are passed on and over time the species might change or evolve in order to survive.
